| Science Week Paper Plane Challenge
Last week, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in the National Science Week 2020 Paper Plane Challenge. Two students were selected to represent their class in the final on Friday to determine a champion for their grade. The finalists launched their paper planes from the upper level of the St Mary of the Cross Centre (SMOC) to provide a good view for all spectators. This turned out to be a live science experiment in itself! It was discovered and discussed that the wind funnelled over the top of the SMOC causing a strong downward draft. This caused the paper planes to immediately nose-dive, and in some cases fly back towards the SMOC! Like good scientists, some students decided it would be a good idea to keep this data and use it to design a more effective competition in the future. Young scientists at their best!
